Syria: Western countries only sent aid to terrorists - Assad in RT interview *EXCLUSIVE* *PARTNER CONTENT*

Syrian Arab Republic, Damascus

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stated that "all the aid that any Western country sent was to the terrorists," during an exclusive interview with RT journalist Maria Finoshina in Damascus on Tuesday.

Asked how strong the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) was today, the Syrian President replied "As strong as the support that they get from the West and regional powers," adding that "the real support they have, the money, the oil field investment, the support of the American allies' aircrafts, that's why they are strong."

On the recent news that the US lifted an embargo against arming militant groups in Syria, Assad stated "the timing of the announcement and the timing of [IS] attacking Palmyra. There's a direct link between these two, so the question is to whom those armaments are going to? In the hands of who? In the hands of ISIS and al-Nusra," adding that "we're not sure that he lifted that embargo when he announced it. Maybe he lifted it before, but announced it later just to give it the political legitimacy."

The Syrian leader continued, "all the aid that any Western country sent was to the terrorists," adding that "they never cared about a single Syrian human life. We have so many cities in Syria till today surrounded by and besieged by the terrorists; they prevented anything to reach them, food, water, anything, all the basic needs of life."
