Italy: Five Star Movement leaders call for Renzi's swift resignation

Journalist (Italian): "Are we going towards an election, or is there going to be another Renzi cabinet?

SOT, Luigi Di Maio, Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies and Five Star MP (Italian): "I hope we will go to vote soon but of course it is the president of Republic that decides when to close the legislation."

Leading members of parliament from the Italian opposition party Five Star Movement gave their reactions to Sunday's referendum and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's decision to resign, speaking outside the prime minister's residence, Palazzo Chigi, in Rome, Monday.

Five Star Movement MP Alessandro Di Battista stated that "If Renzi quits you can all be happy, because he is anti-political. Anti-political is when Partito Democratico carries out constitutional reforms in the interest of parites and particracy, and thank God those reforms were blocked."

Luigi Di Maio, Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies and Five Star MP, was also optimistic about the referendum result and Renzi's announcement, saying "You will know our government team very soon."

The MPs were reportedly meeting to discuss tactics at Palazzo Montecitorio, the seat of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, in the aftermath of the 'No' vote in Italy's constitutional reform referendum.

Renzi announced that he would step down on Sunday evening following a 'No' vote on a referendum proposing changes to the constitution. The reforms would have removed the current system of so-called perfect bicameralism where the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate have the exact same powers within the legislative process.
