Iraq: Internally displaced refugees stress terrible conditions at refugee camp

Iraq, Tall Kayf
November 24, 2016 at 00:41 GMT -00:00 · Published

Footage shows internally displaced refugees from north Iraq, who fled to the Wadi al-Ahmar (Red Valley) camp in the Assyrian town of Tall Kayf in the Nineveh region of Iraq, Wednesday, which is currently under the control of the Iraqi army.

A refugee and mother of five, Hamda Abdallah explained her plight and the dreadful conditions of the camp, "There is no water. We buy ice and transport it by tractor. Me and my children don't know what to do, even Daesh [IS] did nothing for us. Nobody helped us. For two and a half years we have been in the same situation, my children and I and our cars. ISIS militants came and forced us out. Since we have left we have not returned. It has already been two years and six months that we have not been back. I have five children and a husband, there are seven of us. We live in a tent."

Whilst another, Abu Leith, added, "Look at the people who have died of hunger, due to the lack of medicines and basic conditions. It wasn't a camp; it was a pen for sheep," adding, "We call on all those, who are making the decisions, call to all those who are virtuous, call to the Nineveh province council, we call to all good people to save these children.

Mosul is the last major city in Iraq under the control of IS and the army has recently been working towards its recapture by liberating nearby towns and cutting off supply routes to the militants who remain in the city.
