More than 1,000 people were evacuated from the Central Universal Department Store (TSUM) in central Moscow on Wednesday after a fire broke out in the premises.

Smoke billowed from the building as firefighters went in search of the blaze, which reportedly started in a basement ventilation duct coming from a cafe kitchen.

Emergency service vehicles and fire engines blocked traffic outside the mall as firefighters got to work. No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire, which was quickly extinguished.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations said that 19 fire engines and 60 personnel arrived at the scene.
