Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus' said that "it is Christians who suffered and are suffering the most" in the Middle East today, despite the fact that the region "is the birthplace of Christianity," during an exclusive interview with RT journalist Daniel Hawkins in Moscow, Friday.

The Head of the Russian Orthodox Church was referring to statistics stating that "there used to be 1.5 million Christians in Iraq - now there is less than 150,000. There used to be half-a-million Christians in Syria, and now it is unknown where they have disappeared."

When asked about the term 'multiculturalism' being widely discussed among Western politicians, Patriarch Kirill stated that "there has never been the idea of multiculturalism, not even in the USSR." The Patriarch continued, "We are not talking about any mixture, we are not talking about any cocktail. We say that every person should stay himself or herself. But we all live in the same country, so we all should obey the laws and build good relations with each other."

"And politics should be aimed, not at breaking the boundaries between cultures and religions and making one cocktail out of it as I said, but at supporting all the people ensuring their rights and liberties, so that every person of any faith could feel at home in their country" Patriarch Kirill added.

The Head of the Russian Orthodox Church was also asked about the tendency among young people who are turning away from the values of the Christian faith. According to Patriarch Kirill, television, literature and cinema create an "ideological paradigm aimed at dismantling religious and moral values." The Patriarch concluded that this proved that "God is being purposefully forced out of a people's life."
