Sweden: UK High Court Brexit decision condemned as ‘politically motivated’ by UKIP MEP

UKIP MEP Raymond Finch lambasted the decision by the UK High Court to refer the triggering of Brexit to parliament, in Stockholm on Friday. Finch was in the Swedish capital to participate in the Alternative Noble Prize being held at the Grand Hotel Stockholm, where the leader of his party Nigel Farage was expected to receive an award.

"Obviously this is the elite of our country refusing to accept the will of the people,” said Finch, before adding “the British people will not allow this victory to be stolen from them."

Of the court’s decision, Finch stated "Of course it was a political motivated decision, these judges were appointed by the elite, they are part of the elite, they are terrified of the will of the people.”

The UK’s High Court ruled Thursday, that the British Parliament will have the final say on triggering Article 50, the legislation which will instigate Brexit, upending British Prime Minister Theresa May’s timetable to leave the union.

May’s cabinet apparently will appeal against the court ruling and push forward with plans to start formal talks on exiting the EU in March 2017.

The British Parliament could potentially block the UK leaving the union, but are expected instead to temper May’s plans for a so-called ‘hard Brexit’, softening the economic fallout of triggering Article 50.
