German Foreign Affairs Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in a joint press conference with British counterpart Boris Johnson that the two administrations still had 'a lot to talk about' regarding Brexit negotiations, Berlin, Friday. The German diplomat went on to street the importance of haste in regards to the negotiations, stating "we should establish the conditions as fast as possible, so that the negotiations can actually begin, even with the British court ruling this week that they require the approval of parliament."

Steinmeier said that Germany's government is "waiting to see how the British position towards the exit application proceeds," adding "I don't see any room for pre-negotiations." He went on to stress the importance of a partnership with Britain, stating: "We wish and we are counting on Britain remaining a close partner in the future, when dealing with crises and conflicts around Europe and unfortunately at the moment we still have a lot to talk about."

Johnson described Brexit negotiations as a "huge opportunity" that could produce a strong EU and a strong UK linked by a new European partnership."

The former journalist also referenced the importance of a united front on the war in Syria and the crisis in Aleppo, revealing discussions between the ministers about "the need to keep up the pressure on both the Russians and the regime."
