A bus driver was killed after a 48-year-old man set him alight at a stop on Beaudesert Road, in Brisbane's Moorooka disrict, on Friday.

Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart stated, "From our initial enquiries it appears that as passengers were boarding a bus on Beaudesert road in Moorooka a man threw some type of incendiary device at the driver, sadly the driver, a 29-year-old man, died as a result of his injuries. From talking to witnesses we understand several passengers on board the bus at the time managed to escape from the rear door, and I also understand that that was partly due to the heroic actions of a taxi driver who saw what was unfolding on the bus."

Whilst the six passengers on board were taken to hospital, the bus driver named Manmeet Alisher died from his injuries.

The motivations behind the attack are still unknown, however Stewart reported, "There is no evidence at this time of any linkage to terrorist type activities and certainly that has not become evident through our ongoing investigations that occurred. I’d also mention that we do not believe at this stage that there is any evidence linking this to racial, racial complaints by either of the people involved."
