Ukraine: Sparta battalion commander ‘Motorola’ killed by ‘Ukrainian terrorists' – DPR's Basurin

Ukraine, Donetsk
October 17, 2016 at 17:44 GMT -00:00 · Published

The Deputy Defence Minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR/DNR), Eduard Basurin, held a press conference in Donetsk, Monday, where he claimed that the DPR commander Arseni 'Motorola' Pavlov was "killed by Ukrainian terrorists."

At the press conference, Basurin elaborated on the alleged death of Pavlov, saying "our friend and comrade Arseni Sergeevich Pavlov" had "his life and the lives of his men were cut short by an explosive device remotely controlled by Ukrainian terrorists, when the soldiers were getting to their apartment in the lift of a multi-story building."

He also noted that the "Ukrainian militants, who thought that they had broken our will with their terrorist manoeuvre, have launched a fresh offensive in the area of Leninskoe settlement this morning."

Pavlov was originally from the Russian city of Ukhta in the Komi Republic, later travelled to east Ukraine to fight against the government troops. He led one of the self-defence units resisting the Ukrainian government forces in the beginning of the conflict, and fought in the Donetsk airport and Ilovaisk. Pavlov was reportedly placed on a Ukrainian wanted list after he claimed to have killed 15 prisoners.
