Bosnia and Herzegovina: Vote count stalled in Srebrenica, as ethnic Serb poised to win mayoral vote

The announcement of the winner of Srebrenica's final mayoral election was delayed, Wednesday, as the Bosnian Serb police were deployed to secure the ballots after the initial count indicated that an ethnic Serb candidate, Mladen Grujicic, would become the next mayor.

Following the departure of the police, Grujicic stated, "There are no tensions in Srebrenica as you can see the city is peaceful, there is no special police on the streets. There is increased security inside the municipality building but that is something expected, especially in a place like Srebrenica when the announcement of the final election result is being delayed."

Grujicic stated in regards to the heightened security that, "Some (election) material was really found in the garbage bin, but some was left by the police in the police station and that is why there is an increase in security around those materials to make sure that something similar doesn't happen to some of the more important material that is located in the (municipality) building."

The Bosnian candidate Camil Durakovic is still waiting for postal votes predominantly from the city's Muslim community to be counted. Nevertheless, initial counts suggest that Mladen Grujicic will become Srebrenica's first ethnic Serb mayor for 17 years.
