      Ecuador: Xi Jinping to make first official visit of Chinese President to Quito

      Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Guillaume Long announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping is planning on making an official visit to Ecuador, during a joint press conference following a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Quito, Tuesday.

      "Finally Minister Wang Yi brought some very important news for us. He just confirmed that President Xi Jinping would visit Ecuador this year. This is very important for us, this is also one of the reasons for Wan Ji's visit," stated Long, adding that "we just had a very fruitful meeting, between both teams, Ecuadorean and Chinese, to prepare President Xi Jinping's visit. No need to say that we are very excited."

      The Chinese Foreign Minister stated that the "Ecuadorian Foreign Minister and I agree to keep making efforts to expand strategic cooperation. China will strongly support Ecuador in it's journey to explore the paths to development, according to the national reality of this country. We expect and trust on the support and comprehension of the Ecuadorian side."

      Wang Yi is the first Chinese Foreign Minister to visit Ecuador on an official state trip.
