Greece: COSCO group chairman visits Greek Port of Piraues
The chairman of China's biggest shipping company COSCO Xu Lirong visited the Greek port of Piraues, on Monday, to pledge company's support to double the number of cruise passengers that the port can receive.
Xu Lirong was welcomed by top government officials, including Deputy Minister for Tourism Elena Kountoura, at the inauguration ceremony for the new cruise terminal.
The competition of facility was made possible due to COSCO's investments in the Piraeus Port Authority, which it acquired earlier this year.
Speaking at the event, Elena Kountoura called the Chinese company a “strategic partner” for Greece. She went on to say that the COSCO group “showed practically its potent interest and confidence in investing in Greece in this period of new opportunities and new possibilities for the Greek economy.”
