Spain: Pregnant migrant goes into labour during helicopter-rescue op
A pregnant woman was helicoptered from a small boat by coast guards in the Alboran Sea near the Almeria coast, Friday, during an operation to pick up 29 African migrants in the southern Spanish waters.
Those who found their way on to the fishing boat were attempting to enter Spanish waters via the Mediterranean Sea when coast guards were alerted. During the operation to take the migrants from the boat, a pregnant woman went into labour, her water breaking while on board. She later successfully gave birth in the Torrecardenas Hospital, Almeria.
Her companions were brought to the port of Motril in Granada, with 18 of them temporarily staying in the town.
