Germany: De Maiziere discusses integration and Islam in Germany
Germany: Integration is a task for whole society, not only for government - De Maiziere
German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere stated that all citizens should participate in an integration process including Muslim population, during the opening ceremony of the 2nd Congress for the Future on Migration and Integration, in Berlin, Tuesday.
"Integration of refugees is a big chance for Muslims who live in Germany to show everyone that integration can only work together. And in case they don't take part in it, it will be more difficult for the acceptance of Islam in Germany. That's a chance, a task and a risk," he said, before adding that |"Muslims who have been living in our country for years have a huge responsibility."
Commenting on chances for a successful integration, de Maiziere stressed that it's "a task for the whole society, not only for a state and administration."
He went on to say that Germany "cannot tolerate every manifestation of other cultures in the integration process" such as "underage weddings, combination of marriage and violence." "When a man doesn't want to take any food from a woman, then he won't receive any food," he added.
