Russian servicemen in Syria voted in the State Duma parliamentary elections from the Hmeymim Air Base in Latakia on Sunday.

The voting was held at a specifically organised polling station at the territory of the Russian base and was accompanied by a military band. According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, all the servicemen and civilian personnel took part in the voting.

On Sunday, Russian voters will elect 450 deputies to the Russian State Duma for a term of five years. Fourteen political parties have registered to participate in the election. There are a total of around 4,500 contenders to choose from and about 2,000 of those run as independent candidates.
