Ukraine: At least six injured following overnight shelling in Makeevka - DPR

Ukraine, Makeevka
September 14, 2016 at 11:49 GMT -00:00 · Published

Officials of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) said at least six civilians including two children were wounded in Makeevka, Wednesday, after the city was hit by overnight shelling.

One local woman said that the shelling began at midnight and that the projectiles “fell right on our house, my parents were here directly under the shelling and we were in the house next to it. We heard my mother crying out that my father was hurt, he was in shock.”

According to DPR officials, 15 buildings were severely damaged, including a school. They accused the Ukrainian military of carrying out the attack, which took place just a day after a unilateral ceasefire was announced by DPR leader Alexander Zakharchenko.

Continued hostilities have seen the Minsk ceasefire agreement in eastern Ukraine fray over recent months amid mounting casualties, and despite the presence of Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) observers, and multiple withdrawals from the line of contact.
