"In general, Moscow is a key city, not only the matches of the World Cup will be held here, but also the International Broadcast Centre will be based here, the final draw will be held here, the headquarters of the organizing committee and FIFA will be here during the World Cup. For us this city is the base, a huge number of tourists will stay here, currently we have already signed contracts for more than 14,000 hotel rooms in the city of Moscow."

A FIFA delegation inspected the ongoing renovation of Luzhniki stadium, the World Cup 2018 flagship venue, in Moscow, Wednesday.

The FIFA delegation, led by Competitions Director Colin Smith, were shown around the stadium where they observed the work that is underway.

After the inspection, Smith expressed his satisfaction, saying “it’s always a joy to see the green grass growing because that shows that we are really getting to the point of completing the project.” He was accompanied by Alexei Sorokin, head of Russia's the World Cup organising committee, who emphasized that Moscow will be the “key city” for 2018.

The reconstruction of the Luzhniki Stadium is planned to be completed by the end of 2016, with its capacity increased up to 81,000. In the course of the fourth inspection that will be held till September 15, the delegation will visit stadiums in five cities that will host the matches. The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be staged in 11 Russian cities: Moscow, St Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Samara and Rostov-on-Don.
