Germany: Intl. Paralympic Committee to decide on Russian ban by end of week

SOT, Journalist (Russian): "It was said earlier that the names of sportspeople became known and that the Russian side is not aware ...

SOT, Vladimir Lukin, President of Russian Paralympic Committee (Russian): "No names were announced this time. However, it was reported that the investigation is underway and some names will appear soon. In response, we said that the investigation usually comes before the verdict, but here it wasn't the case. First, there was a verdict and now the details are being investigated. This is rather unusual. That's a legal novella."

Following a meeting between President of the Russian Paralympic Committee Vladimir Lukin and the International Paralympic Committee in Bonn, Wednesday, Lukin stated that the group would re-examine their results on Russia’s participation in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

With the Committee set to make a decision by Saturday, Lukin added that a ban on the entire Russian Paralympic team would be "too much of a good thing."

The Russian official confirmed that the names of athletes potentially facing a ban had not yet been announced, saying it was "unusual" that the investigation was coming after the verdict.

The entire Paralympic team may be banned from the forthcoming Games in Rio due to the possible doping violations. The International Paralympic Committee is currently re-examining claims of the Russian Paralympic Committee and is expected to make the decision by the end of this week.

Earlier this year, Russian track and field team was banned from the Rio's Olympic Games. World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) had recommended a blanket ban on Russian athletes competing given the findings of the McLaren report, which detailed systemic doping of Russian athletes. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to leave the decision of Russian participation up to the individual sports' governing bodies.
