Russia: French MP says Crimean Tatars have brighter future than Russians in Lithuania
The head of a French delegation visiting Crimea said he was satisfied with the status of minorities in the peninsula, during a press conference held in Moscow on Monday. Thierry Mariani, a member of the Republicans in the French National Assembly, led a delegation which visited Crimea between July 29-31.
"While in Crimea, we asked questions about the Tatar people, Jewish people, imprisoned and missing persons and the answers we received satisfied us," he said. "I have more confidence in the Tatars' future in Russia than about Russians and Russian-speaking people in certain Baltic states, in Lithuania, for instance," he added.
Leonid Slutski, head of the Duma Committee which tackles Crimean affairs, praised the delegation, who he described as taking "a position in favour of the truth in the minds of the European people."
