Russian freestyle wrester Soslan Ramonov expressed his relief at the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision not to enforce a blanket ban on Russian athletes participating in the upcoming Rio Olympic Games, in Moscow on Sunday.

Ramonov said that he is "very happy" adding that "all Russia and all of us were waiting for this decision and certainly we were worried," before adding "Thank God all happened as it happened."

Russian gymnast Dmitri Ushakov, who already has a silver Olympic medal from the London 2012 Olympics, stated that all Russian sportsmen "were ready for the worst." However Ushakov believes that the decision will prove to be an "will be an additional push for our team."

On Sunday the IOC has announced in a report that Russian athletes, who wish to compete in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, will be allowed to take part in the competition and will not be banned. However, sportsmen from Russia wishing to participate in Rio 2016 will have to meet strict criteria laid down by the IOC on an individual case by case basis; including the stipulation that any Russian athlete who has already been banned for doping will not be eligible to compete in the Rio Olympics.
