Russia: 'We will not miss Mr Hammond' - Zakharova welcomes UK's new FM

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova welcomed Boris Johnson as the UK's new Foreign Secretary, during a press briefing in Moscow, Thursday, noting, “We will not miss Mr Hammond."

Of Johnson's appointment, Zakharova said, "The Russian Foreign Minister sent the corresponding congratulations to his new counterpart who took this position."

Zakharova remarked that the UK's new Foreign Minister could help the two countries reach the next page of bilateral interaction, adding, "The book of Russian-British relations has long been awaiting the moment to turn the page."

The spokeswoman emphasised, "If the new Foreign Minister will express the relevant desires and intentions, we will certainly support them."

Prime Minister Theresa May appointed Johnson as UK's new Foreign Minister on Wednesday.
