Greece: Thousands protest against NATO in Thessaloniki
Thousands of protesters gathered in central Thessaloniki on Thursday to condemn the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) summit currently taking place in Warsaw. The summit unites heads of state and heads of government of the NATO countries.
The Greek Committee for International Peace, trade unions, feminist groups, students and other organisations all took part in the march.
Mihalis Spiridakis, a Greek peace campaigner, said: "We are here today after a call from the World Peace Council in response to the NATO summit being held this weekend in Warsaw, to denounce the plans from NATO which are deadly, criminal, and barbaric, which are in contradiction to the health and independence of nations."
