German Government officials gave a detailed account of the past year's arms exports policy, in Berlin, Wednesday.

Spokesperson Steffen Seibert stated that: "Since 2015 we have been conducting a restrictive arms export policy". But he noted that "7.86 billion euros have been spent in 2015" on arms exports.

Another official stated that the government's specific goal was to reduce the export of small arms, since "they are often applied in civil wars," and "they can easily be passed on."

In 2015 German arms exports were at their highest level since 2005, when recording first began, which stands in contrast to the pledge made by the Social Democrats to decrease the exporting of weapons.
