Belgium: Farage calls on UK to immediately trigger Article 50

[What happens if they say yes, you can have trade with the rest of Europe; however in order to do that you have to do the same thing as Norway, as Switzerland, you have to pay your dues and you have to allow freedom of movement. How's that going to go down with those people you convinced that you were going to be able to shut off immigration from the EU to Great Britain?]

Well that proposition is just 'nil point', we're just not going to do that, go away. Look, if this didn't work, if we reach the worst case scenario of no deal being on offer, no deal is better for us than the rotten deal we've got now. And very bad for them, seriously bad for them.

[Really, you would cut off trade with Germany?]

I think you've misunderstood me. No deal for us is better for us than the current terms of membership. With the current terms of membership the cost far outweighs the benefits of reduced tarriffs. The other way around there's a problem: and the problem is they sell to us more than we sell to them. We are the biggest trading partner in the world for the Eurozone and hundreds of thousands of German car makers' jobs depend on access to the British market. Tarriffs on both sides would wreck German industry and with a general election coming up next year in Germany, I'm really optimistic that a sensible grown up trade deal can happen because they need it more than we do."

UKIP leader Nigel Farage called on the UK government to immediately trigger Article 50 and begin negotiations to have the country leave the EU, in an interview with RT in Brussels on Tuesday evening.

"What Mr Juncker said this morning was perfectly sensible and quite right. We voted to leave so let's do it. Let's trigger Article 50 and let's go into grownup negotiations about trade," he said. "Our view has always been we want no part of political union but we want to have trade, cooperation, friendship, to be good neighbours."

The UK voted by 51.9% to 48.1% to leave the EU in a referendum held last Thursday.
