Serbia: Serbs commemorate anniversary of 1389 Battle of Kosovo
Around 1,000 people attended a ceremony at the Gazimestan memorial on Tuesday, to mark the 627nd anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo which took place in 1389 between Serbians led by Prince Lazar, and Ottoman forces under the leadership of Sultan Murad Hudavendigar.
The ceremony was led by Serbian Orthodox Church priests. Serbs gathered from across the country and chanted slogans such as "Kosovo is the heart of Serbia" and held national flags aloft. In an address, one of the priests said "glory and thanks to Prince Lazar who became the standard for the determination of our people."
After the ceremony, a bus carrying participants of the memorial was stoned by a group of unknown persons, reportedly leaving two people injured.
