Russia: Putin says most important task is to strengthen the armed forces
Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed military officials and graduates of the military academies at an official reception ceremony at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Tuesday.
Putin stated that one of the most important national tasks is to strengthen the armed forces. "A modern and well-equipped, mobile army and navy guarantees the sovereignty and independence of the Fatherland. The security of our citizens is a weighty argument against any attempts at provocations, blackmail or pressure against our country," he said.
The Russian leader stressed that the army's effectiveness in battle is based on the "highest professional skills," "ability to work effectively" and "officers who are capable of commanding the troops skilfully."
Putin also noted that Russia's "strategic course towards modernisation and improvement of the Armed Forces remains unchanged" and will be improved in the future. "The operations of our Aerospace Forces and Navy in the Syrian Arab Republic proved that this course was right and was carried out efficiently," he said.
While addressing graduates of law enforcement academies, Putin stated that their main duties are "to ensure the rule of law, constitutional and public order, and the rights of our citizens."
