Germany: Intnl NGOs call for Turkey to respect press freedoms
Activists from organisations Reporters Without Borders, Amnesty International and European Centre for Press and Media Freedom gathered on Monday in front of the Turkish Embassy in Berlin, to call for the release of journalists and activists in Turkey who they believe are imprisoned unjustly.
Among those whose release was called for is journalist Erol Onderoglu and human rights activist Sebnem Korur Fincanci.
"I want to contribute so that there would be more press freedom in Turkey, and contribute so that people would not be jailed so rapidly, because based on what I have read from Reporters Without Borders, in Turkey there is an anti-terror law that if you belong to a suspicious organisation you will be put behind bars very fast," said one activist.
