Dozens of cars were set on fire in several Berlin's districts in the early hours of Sunday in what local media say was a deliberate arson attack. Schoeneberg, Gesundbrunnen and Rummelsburg were affected by the attack.

According to police, around 22pm on Saturday at least 100 masked people with flares were seen in the Wedding neighbourhood. They allegedly planned to attack the job centre on Mullerstrasse but after the police arrived, they managed to flee from the site.

An investigation is underway.

Moreover, local media have reported that the office building of the member of the Berlin House of Representatives Kurt Wansner was smeared with the symbol "R94" in Berlin-Friedrichshain. The acronym stands allegedly for an inhabited house at Rigaer Strasse 94 in the same district.

Earlier in the week, several cars were lit on fire after clashes erupted between police and left-wing activists on Rigaer Strasse. A building on Rigaer Strasse in Berlin's Friedrichshain district, which is reportedly one of the city's longest occupied buildings, was cleared by 300 police officers after the local property management company reportedly asked police for help in the eviction.
