
USA: At least 20 killed in historic floods across West Virginia
Charleston and vast parts of West Virginia were hit by floods resulting from heavy thunderstorms on Friday, leaving at least 20 people dead.
13 people were killed in the hardest hit area of Greenbrier County, while three others lost their lives in Kanawha County, one in Ohio and one in Jackson County.
The flood was the third-deadliest that has occurred in West Virginia, after the 1972 flooding which killed 125 and the 1985 flooding that killed 38. The damage is reported to be widespread, with search and rescue missions taking place. A state of emergency has been declared in 44 counties.
