
UK: $70 MILLION 'diamond of the century' to go on sale at Sotheby's, London
The largest diamond found in over a century was unveiled to the press at London's Sotheby's auction house, Tuesday, before the record gem with an estimated worth of $70 million (€ 62.33 million) is to go on sale at the end of June.
The three-billion-year-old diamond, labelled Lesedi la Rona, was discovered last November in Botswana. It is 1,109 carats and approximately the size of a tennis ball. Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby's Jewellery Division David Bennett expects the diamond to fetch around $70 million (€ 62.33 million).
Sotheby's will auction the Lesedi la Rona diamond on June 29.
