
Russia: EMERCOM evacuates over 120 people as floods hit Sochi
Footage released on Monday by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) shows citizens being evacuated near Sochi on Sunday, after torrential rain caused flooding in the areas west of Sochi over the weekend.
Dozens of vehicles and a rescue helicopters were used by EMERCOM to airlift people away from their homes in danger of the rising water levels. EMERCOM estimates that at least 121 people, including 48 children were rescued during the weekend.
The severe weather has not caused any casualties at the time of writing. The weather is expected to stay wet in the Krasnodar region for the next few days, according to forecasts by the Hydrometeorological Research Centre of the Russian Federation.
