Brazil: Hundreds protest gang rape of 16-year-old girl in Rio de Janeiro
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Friday, to denounce the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl that took place in the city on Saturday and violence against women in Brazil.
Protesters marched to Rio's Legislative Assembly building where a rally was held. Demonstrators held signs condemning violence against women in Brazil and chanted slogans demanding government action.
During the rally, one protester said: "This is constant in politics, in the streets, inside homes, also education that does not teach diversity. Its a generalised violence in this country that ends in rape."
This week, Brazil was rocked by the news that a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by more than 30 men in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday. The case came to light after several of the suspects shared a 40-second video of the incident on social media, sparking outrage across the country.
