Russia: Lavrov hosts Gulf States' FMs for talks on Syria, security and economy

Russian Foreign Minister hosted the Fourth Meeting of the Strategic Dialogue Russia - the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in Moscow, Thursday.

Taking part in the Moscow meeting were the Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

The top priority of the meeting was talks on security matters in the Middle East, with the Syrian conflict and its resolution at the top of the list.

Also on the agenda were ways to counter terrorism in the region, as well as economic issues like trade and economic partnership between Russia and the Persian Gulf.

The Gulf cooperation Council (GCC) is the platform for political, economic and military interaction between the participating countries. It was created in 1981 and since its founding the Council includes such member states as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The first meeting between Russia and the countries of the Council took place in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, in 2011.
