
Turkey: Turkish Parliament approves the lifting of parliamentary immunity
The Turkish Parliament approved a bill lifting the immunity 139 deputies accused of criminal charges, opening the way to judicial process to arrest them, in Ankara on Friday.
376 out of 550 deputies voted in favour of the government-backed motion. The bill is now due to be presented to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who is expected to approve the motion.
The biggest majority of the politicians at risk of prosecution belong to two opposition parties, including pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP).
