USA: NASA's last remaining space shuttle external fuel tank arrives in LA
NASA’s last remaining space shuttle external fuel tank, the ET-94, arrived at the Marina del Rey Harbour in Los Angeles County, Wednesday.
The 66,000 pound (29,937 kg) tank was never used and NASA donated it to the California Science Centre. The 35 foot (10.6 metre) high tank started its journey on April 10 from New Orleans and crossed the Panama Canal covering around 9,000 miles (14,500 kilometres) in total.
The ET-94 is going to be driven through the streets of Los Angeles to the Science Centre starting early Saturday morning and it is scheduled to arrive at its final destination around 7:30pm local time. The tank is going to be put together with the Space Shuttle Endeavour in a building which will be constructed within two years, thus creating a full replica for Endeavour’s final display.
