France: Protesters storm banks, burn cars and battle riot police in Rennes
Clashes erupted between protesters and riot police in Rennes, Tuesday, during a demonstration against the French government's proposed labour reforms.
Protesters set cars alight, attacked a bank, an Orange outlet, and several shops, as well as throwing missiles at Rennes City Hall. Riot police, several covered in red paint, attempted to disperse the demonstrators with tear gas.
Commonly referred to as the 'El Khomri law' after French Labour Minister Myriam El Khomri, the labour reforms, which have sparked fierce protests across France, will look at almost all aspects of the country's labour laws; France's 35-hour work week will be changed to allow employers to ask a maximum of 46 hours from their employees, companies will have greater freedoms to reduce salaries, and employers will have more ability to fire their workers.
