Russia: Zakharova criticises the US over lack of military cooperation
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova criticised the US authorities for unwillingness to cooperate with Russia on a joint missile defence system in Europe, during a press briefing in Moscow, Thursday.
"The US is creating air defence system on a unilateral basis. We have offered various options in order to solve the situation around the missile defence system," stated Zakharova, adding “We were ready for a close cooperation including a joint air defence system with NATO in Europe which would really defend the region against a potential missile threat from outside the Euro-Atlantic region and at the same time would not have undermined strategic parity.”
Moreover, the spokesperson called the US activity on missile defence system in Europe "destructive" and "a direct threat to regional security and stability."
Commenting on fight against international terrorism, Zakharova stressed the necessity to block economic support of the terrorists, saying: "We have repeatedly told our partners that it is necessary to cut terrorists' channels not only getting manpower, but arms supplies, mostly via the Turkish-Syrian border.”
