Chile: Clashes erupt during student protest in Santiago
Clashes broke out between protesters and police in Santiago, Wednesday, after thousands of students took to the streets for an educational reform rally organised by the Confederation of Chilean Students (CONFECH).
The clashes erupted after a group of masked protesters began lighting fires and throwing missiles at police, who responded by unleashing water cannon and tear gas on the students. Several arrests were made during the clashes.
The students and education workers are demanding that the education reforms promised by the government under Chilean President Michelle Bachelet are implemented in the near future. Protesters were also calling for free college and university education.
