      Around 500 people protested against the European Union and capitalism in Barcelona, Sunday, as the annual May Day rally took place in the city.

      Protesters held banners and shouted slogans, while rallying through the city centre, demanding an increase of salaries as well as better working conditions.

      The protest was organised by two of Spain's main unions, the General Union of Workers (UGT) and the Workers' Commissions (CCOO).

      May Day demonstrations were held across all major cities in Spain, with thousands taking to the streets in Madrid.
