France: Le Pen competes with father Jean-Marie in honouring Joan of Arc
Leader of Front National (FN) Marine Le Pen, accompanied by fellow FN MPs Florian Philippot and her niece Marion Marechal Le Pen, paid respects to French nationalist figure Joan of Arc, laying a wreath at the Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc) statue at Saint-Augustin square in Paris, on International Workers' Day, Sunday.
Marine Le Pen's commemoration of the French historical figure on May Day came just an hour and a half after her father and former head of Front National, Jean-Marie Le Pen, also laid a wreath at a Joan of Arc statue at Pyramides square.
Traditionally, FN leaders commemorate the French heroine at Pyramides square, however this year, for the first time, most leaders gathered at the Saint-Augustin square statue of Joan of Arc instead. Several dozen police and security officers were present for the commemoration.
