SOT, doctor of the special groups operation (Spanish): "Well, the dog Kili had an injury in her paw caused by some metal that cut her when she was searching. It was not a very deep wound; it was treated with three stitches. It was infected; she is now through a recovery process. The dog is not going to be able to keep working given the injury, so we are going to let her rest. She is going to be for observation for a few days to get well soon. Afterwards, if it is necessary, she will be back to help in the victim search and rescue operation."

SOT, Police Captain Luis Cifuentes (Spanish): "We are going to send her back to Quito to rest because she is not able to work anymore. I am not authorised to give more details. We keep working here with the dogs, trying to find survivors among the collapsed buildings, and at the same time to find and recover the corpses with these dogs, that are trained to find either survivors among the debris or dead bodies and human remains. This is what we are doing, Thanks a lot."

Rescue dogs have been participating in the search for survivors in Manta following the deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake and subsequent aftershocks and as shown by footage from Friday, many of them have sustained injuries. Kili, a dog trained to look for both living survivors and dead bodies, injured her paw participating in the search and rescue operation and has been allowed to rest.

Police Captain Luis Cifuentes confimed that Kili will be send back to the Ecuadorian capital, Quito, for rest and recuperation before being called back into the field if required once she has recovered.

He went on to say that they will "keep working here with the dogs, trying to find survivors among the collapsed buildings and at the same time to find and recover the corpses with these dogs."

Tremors continue to strike Ecuador, with authorities reporting that more than 500 have hit since the initial monster earthquake. The death toll has now risen to 602, according to a statement from the nation's emergency management department, while an estimated 12,500 people are injured and 130 still unaccounted for.
