
Cape Verde: Russian humanitarian aid aircraft en route to Ecuador
A Russian aircraft Ilyushin Il-76, loaded with humanitarian aid bound for Ecuador, stopped off at Cape Verde on Thursday before arriving at its final destination. On board are packages of food, tents and mobile power stations - weighing 30 tonnes in total.
According to the most recent figures, at least 525 people have been killed and more than 2,500 injured following Saturday's 7.8 magnitude earthquake and several subsequent powerful aftershocks.
Volunteers from Colombia, Peru, Cuba, Venezuela, Switzerland, Mexico and Chile have been assisting Ecuadorian authorities with their search and rescue operations.
