Russia: Kiev and Moscow in contact over Savchenko - Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow and Kiev remain in contact over the jailed Ukrainian helicopter pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, during an address to media in Moscow on Thursday.
Putin remarked that "our partners know our position and when facing such questions it is better not to leap ahead."
Kiev raised the possibility of a prisoner exchange for Savchenko involving Yevgeni Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov, two Russian soldiers who are currently on trial in Ukraine.
Savchenko was sentenced to 22 years with after being convicted of murder of Russian journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin in Ukraine's Lugansk Region. The journalists were killed in June 2014 after being hit by shell-fire at a checkpoint outside Lugansk in east Ukraine. Savchenko was detained in July 2014 after crossing the border pretending to be a refugee, according to prosecutors. Her defence said she was captured by east Ukrainian rebels and handed over to Russian authorities.
