France: Armenians protest outside Azerbaijani consulate over Karabakh conflict
Around 200 Armenians demonstrated in Strasbourg, Friday, in front of the Council of Europe and the Azerbaijani consulate, against the Azeri government, whom they accuse of having reignited the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. The protesters carried placards with slogans such as "Azerbaijan=DAESH" and "Karabakh is Armenian."
They also demonstrated against European arms sales to Azerbaijan."Europe should stop selling weapons to Azerbaijan, but we are aware that corruption is very strong among the European Council," said one protest leader. "And thanks to petroleum, Azerbaijan has no difficulty in defending its interests," he added.
A fragile ceasefire is in place in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region while both Armenia and Azerbaijan continue to trade allegations as to who set-off the latest round of hostilities that started one week ago. The exact death toll has not been established but it is believed that at least 50 soldiers have died in total, with further civilian casualties also reported.
