Syria: Assad sees Syria's future stability as essential for Middle East
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was interviewed by Russian media in Damascus on Wednesday 30th March, regarding the war in Syria and the future of Syria's political system.
Assad expressed his belief that Syria is essential to the Middle East and maintained that he is trying to keep the country stable. He said, "If Syria completely crumbled apart and chaos took over, then our whole region will definitely not be intact as a result. This is how I wish history will remember me by."
During the interview, Assad also confirmed that, following the crisis in the country, he hoped for a multi-party system in Syria, "There will be different political parties participating; the state's condition will dictate it, and not the fascination with the West. These are the main points through which I see Syria post-crisis."
