Czech Republic: Hundreds protest Xi Jinping's visit to Prague
Hundreds gathered in Prague on Thursday to protest an official state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Czech Republic. The protest started at Kampa Island in central Prague, with protesters waving flags of Taiwan and Tibet while shouting "Free Tibet" and displaying images of former Czech president Vaclav Havel and the Dalai Lama.
Dozens of counter-protesters waved Chinese flags in response; however the lines of protesters were separated by riot police to prevent any escalation. The anti-China protesters then marched through the city waving flags and chanting slogans in condemnation of the country's human rights record.
The protest came on the second day of Xi's visit to Prague, where he met current Czech President Milos Zeman in order to boost bilateral ties between the countries.
