Belgium: Explosion at Brussels' Maelbeek metro station following deadly airport blasts
Several people were reportedly killed as an explosion ripped trhough a train carriage at Brussels' Maelbeek metro station at around 09:15 (08:15 GMT) on Tuesday. The metro station is less than a kilometre away from European Union buildings in the centre of the Belgian capital.
The blast came only an hour after two explosions ripped through the departure hall of Zaventem airport in Brussels killing at least 13 and injuring scores.
The airport is currently on lockdown, with rail transport stopped and incoming flights diverted to Antwerp and other locations. The entire metro system has been shut down. Belgium has raised its terror threat to its highest level.
