Turkey: At least 5 killed in bomb attack in central Istanbul
At least five people were killed and seven others injured in an explosion that rocked Istiklal Avenue in central Istanbul, according to local media that cited police sources.
Police cordoned off the scene, and ambulances were rushed to the site of the explosion to assist the injured people. The governor of Istanbul told the media that the explosion was a suicide attack.
Turkey has faced a wave of similar attacks in recent months. On Monday, March 14, a suicide bomb attack killed at least 37 people in Ankara, the second attack in the Turkish capital within a month. In January the Islamic State claimed responsibility for an attack in Istanbul's Sultanahmet district where a suicide bomber killed 11 and injured 15 people.
