Russia: FlyDubai plane crash caused by 'bad weather conditions' - Rostov governor
Poor weather is a likely principle cause of the FlyDubai plane crash in Rostov-on-Don, Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev said in a statement to the press at the airport on Saturday. Other reports state that pilot error amid the deteriorating weather conditions, and technical failure, are also likely causes of the crash.
Golubev also said that 62 persons - "55 passengers and seven crew members" - had died in the incident, a death toll that's higher by one person than that originally given by EMERCOM who cited six crew members. EMERCOM have since confirmed that 62 people died in the incident.
The FlyDubai passenger Boeing 737-800 travelling from Dubai crashed on landing in Rostov-on-Don early on Saturday morning, reportedly killing everyone on board. Ambulances and police arrived at the airport with rescue teams also deployed to sift through the wreckage and secure the scene of the crash.
Both Boeing and FlyDubai have said they will launch immediate investigations into the crash.
