Belgium: 'Our battle isn't over'- Hollande responds to Paris suspect's arrest

Belgium, Brussels
March 18, 2016 at 22:46 GMT -00:00 · Published

French President Francois Hollande responded to the capture of the key suspect in last November's Paris attacks Salah Abdeslam during a press briefing in Brussels, Friday, saying that despite Abdeslam's arrest, "our battle is not over."

Speaking alongside his Belgian counterpart Charles Michel, Holland touted sercuirty ties between Belgium and France, while also touting the European judiciary cooperation which led to Abdeslam's arrest. However, the French leader stressed that while the suspect's capture is key, "it is not the final conclusion." "We know that the network was very broad in Belgium, in France and other European countries. And so since we haven't arrested and stopped all those who participated, contributed, financed or nourished the terrorist network that committed this abominable, these abominable attacks, acts of war on November 13th, our battle is not over" said Hollande.

The president's comments come as the 26-year-old French suspect from Brussels was captured by security forces after it was alleged his fingerprints were traced to a Brussels flat on Tuesday.

According to authorities, one other suspect was arrested during the operation and a 35-year-old suspect connected to Abdeslam was killed.

Abdeslam has been on the run from authorities following his involvement in last year's Paris attacks. At least 130 people were killed and more than 349 left injured, after gunmen carried out a series of coordinated attacks at six different locations across the capital on November 13.
